make your old pc faster
Why don't you speed up your old computer before you buy a new one ?
When a current computer starts going slow people think of buying new computers but it does not seem bad to put a few extra dollars for processor speeds. A reliable technician will always suggest that a 5-6 year old computer can work smoothly if tuned up properly.
Computer tune up is completely software related. Whenever you visit a website or download or install some program you make changes to the system which makes performance crawl. You can keep a check by seeing the following resources:
Click-right on taskbar (solid area on left of start button) and select Task Manager.
Check CPU Usage and Physical Memory available by clicking performance tab.
When no other program is on and CPU is running more than 15%, there may be hidden process behind which can be checked by clicking on processes tab and CPU column for showing name of item using most space. If it sounds unfamiliar see www(.)tasklist(.)org for details. Same applies if memory available is low. You will also see how many processes are running on the last line of the Task Manager window. To know what processes are running, click the processes tab.
Spyware or malware hidden programs are a common cause for memory and CPU usage. When you download something or try a free software program they get installed inadvertently. If you have them remove it to speed up performance.

You can get options to clear this unwanted software from your computer free by reading my spyware removal article here
Other option includes format & re-installing operating system which requires re-installing all programs and documents for which you need to make sure to back up all your data on CD or an external drive. Home computers can lose on digital pictures and documents during this process.
This will bring new life to your PC, and it should make your computer speed as fast as it was before when you first purchased it. If you are satisfied, with its performance now, you must have saved yourself money on computer upgrade.
Only if you want to install latest programs or applications which require more computing power and more ram, you might install more memory and upgrade your CPU to suit your needs.
