Get Rid of Spyware from your PC

Spyware can be a nightmare for anyone. There are horror stories of little old ladies having their entire retirement funds wiped out by Internet thiefs. Why does this happen? It's a known fact that not many little old ladies or those that use their computers for the very basic necessities of life know anything about what goes on within their systems. It would frighten you. Hopefully I can help you learn more about the dangers of spyware through a horror story of my own.

Six months ago, I bought my 65 year old mother a new computer system for her birthday. She had just retired from her fourty years as a postal worker and was finally ready to begin her retired life with a nice retirement fund in her savings account.

The mistake I made when giving her this gift was neglecting to tell her about the dangers of spyware. Needless to say, a month later she received a call from her bank. They informed her that a freeze had been put on her savings account because of an attempt to withdraw an amount in excess of $100,000.

My mother got lucky, but others never get this lucky. Spyware is the number one cause of identity theft. Many spyware programs have keylogging capabilities. This means that everything you type is recorded and sent to the wrong hands. You've seen those identity theft commercials. Do you really want some burly man with a deep voice making purchases and talking for you? These types of situations are a pain in the neck to clean up.

Anyway, after talking with the manager of the bank, he then redirected her to the IT director at the bank. From there, the IT director explained the rise in identity theft through the use of spyware by underground hacker groups. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission estimates that 27.3 million Americans have been victims of identity theft, and that financial losses from identity theft totaled nearly $48 billion for businesses and financial institutions and at least $5 billion in out-of-pocket expenses for individuals.

He then proceeded to tell her about a website that would aid her in the cleansing of her computer from the spyware. It'd be a new beginning for the computer system and for only a small fee, she could avoid the hassle of having to cancel credit cards and tedious paperwork to change everything. That costs money, too!

Don't become another statistic in the FTC's file cabinets. I wrote this article to help the average Joes out there struggling with spyware or those who want to put a stop to it before it begins. My mother has been using the software for five months now and there hasn't been one instance of spyware since.
