Troubleshooting Computer Problems

Save Cost But high on Value with Computer Upgrades

Every time  whenever I finish the repair work of computer ie. deleting of registry entries and temp files which are old, let me tell you these are the two things which slows down the pc. The is the standard way for any service call and help in software.

It is not always that you have to repair computer by adding/deleting files but also upgrade some of the hardware that runs the computer. The three basic things which help performance wise are RAM, Video Cards and Hard drives. Previously computers came with 512 MB of RAM or may be less than it. You can count Video graphics card as a component of a low-end hard disk drive on the motherboard.

You can say that all these three hard drive items are of daily use. In Windows XP, Video & RAM play important part. As you know that files are accessed and written more often and disk access is also often, the rate and speed of data transfer at which the platters spin on the hard drive comes into motion.

For the betterment of computer it is advisable to increase the amount of RAM. Nowadays it is much cheaper also (hardly $ 30 for 1 MB of RAM).It is quick and cheap. Another thing you can do is replace Video card or add RAM to Video card. The latest versions of all the biggy video cards have there own processors and RAM. This works as a big dose to the refresh rate and forms a big impact for most of the computer.

If you want the fastest chipset with 512MB of RAM, a TV tuner card, and more services you need to spend around $750. But if you wish, you can get better performance even with 64 mb card.

Well, the other area which can always need help is hard disk. It has two factors that control the speed it operates. First one is the type of connection and another one is the speed the hard drive spins on. Before older ones were limited to 100-133 mbps but newer hard drives which is called Serial ATA interface, can move data up to 350 mbps (megabytes per second)

As day by day there is being improvement technically. Before the older drives had speed up to 5500 rpm or 4400rpm. Newer drives spin up to 7200 rpm or even 10,000 rpm. Speed of the platters that spin affects the ability to access the data. One advantage with the newer units is it comes with buffers that holds frequent data excess and makes the operation faster.

Many new brands have come up for eg. Serial ATA 250 gb hard disk drive with 7200rpm and 16mb buffer may cost around $90. Mostly hard drive installation is quiet simple but transferring the data and OS can get little more involved. But hard drive manufacturers provide menu driven software to do the transfer.

It is better to upgrade computers regularly, if it is 2-3 years old why not do all three it will cost you $200 and its performance will increase as if you have bought a new computer. Any local computer shop can install this three for you for just $50 if you buy from there. If you have good knowledge about computers and you think that you can do it yourself than you can buy the parts from eBay and do it yourself which will cut down the price to $175. It is easy to plug in RAM and Video card, but hard drive and transfers needs both mental and physical technique which you can do it if you possess both equally well.
